Trade or not to trade? 

That is the question.  What you have to realize, is that the true market value of the car you drive is equal to the amount of money that another individual is willing to pay for it, minus the emotional attachment that you have to the car.  Translated, it means that your emotional attachement to your trade in, doesn't mean that you should get more for it.  Almost 80% of the customers that I run into that have a trade are emotionally attached to that vehicle, and for some wierd reason they think, the passion they feel for their used car should be shared by the used car manager.  I will let you in on a little secret.  The used car manager at any dealership has the emotional bandwidth of a low functioning autistic person.  They could car less is your car was with you when you went through a divorce, or was your first major purchase, or was where you had your first child.  Used car managers want to buy cheap and sell high.   That is what they do.  If you really want to know what your used car is worth in the true market.  The best place to go is Carmax.  One of the most unemotional experiences you could possibly hope for would far exeeded.
Carmax is known for non-negotiation.  Which is funny becuase as far as a used car salesman is concerned, if you buy a car at Carmax, you paid too much.  On the other hand if you sell your car to Carmax you will get exactly what it is worth.  I guess there is a sense of security in knowing that the other party is unwilling to negotiate.
